If you have applied for the Covid-19 SRD through SASSA’s electronic platform and received a notification that your application was rejected, and you disagree with this decision, you have the option to appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). To initiate the appeal process, please follow these steps:

Ensure that the information you provided to SASSA, as reflected on the SRD DSD Appeal Electronic Platform, is complete and accurate.If necessary, update your contact information by clicking on the provided link. Having correct contact information is crucial in case your appeal is successful, as the Independent Tribunal will direct SASSA to initiate the payment of the Covid-19 SRD to you.After updating your information (if applicable), click “Save,” and you will be automatically redirected back to the SRD DSD Appeal website to proceed with lodging your appeal.Review and accept the clauses in the Declaration and Consent Documents, if required.Click “Submit” and wait for the confirmation message indicating that your appeal application has been successfully submitted.

It’s important to note that you must lodge an appeal application for each month in which your Covid-19 SRD application was rejected by SASSA, if you disagree with the decision. The Independent Tribunal will assess each appeal separately, and their decision will apply only to the specific month in question.The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals, appointed by the Minister of Social Development, is responsible for considering appeals based on the Covid-19 SRD Regulations and the Social Assistance Act, 2004. They will reevaluate SASSA’s decision and aim to provide an outcome within 60 to 90 days from receiving your appeal. You will be notified of the appeal outcome electronically.To determine eligibility, the Independent Tribunal will cross-check various databases used by SASSA, including income and financial assistance databases. The income threshold for insufficient means, as specified in the regulations, is R350 per person per month.You can check the status of your appeal on the provided website. Please be aware that failing to lodge an appeal for each rejected month will result in the original decision being upheld. The Independent Tribunal’s decision is final, and there is no further internal recourse available.
